Harwood Union High School & Middle School Music Department
A Note to Parents at the start of the 2011-12 School Year:
Music study is a three-way partnership composed of teacher, student and parents. Each member of the partnership has a responsibility. Most parents are eager to be active members of the musical partnership but need some guidance and definition. Here are some pointers:
Patience in reminding your child to do his/her daily practice and weekly assignments. Encouragement when the going is rough. Imagination in creating a musical atmosphere in the home by tuning in interesting musical programs on Radio and TV. Balancing an array of interests into which music practice fits as a natural and compensating element. Schedule a regular time for practice. Earlier is best, when minds and bodies are fresh and receptive. Keep instruments in first-rate mechanical condition. Praise work well done. Never use practice as a punishment. Above all, the most important thing you can do is to be interested parents. Remember, No young musician always plays or sings beautifully. Expect only gradual improvement. Compliment some phase of his/her playing and Please sit by him /her and listen often! The rewards of music are immeasurably greater than the cost in time and money! Please contact us anytime.
Please consider helping out with fund-raising for ongoing department needs, as well as instrument lesson support. We raise funds with our annual fruit sale and snack sales during the concerts.
